Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is also working as a Jan andolan currently in India. The motive is to provide the people of India with cleaner and more hygienic surroundings to live in. There was barely any concern of understanding how mankind is contaminating the environment, not just through pollution but also their waste. The mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is to clean India of its waste.

Who Introduced Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and when?

It was Launched by the Narendra Modi’s government on 2nd October, 2014 as a dedication to Gandhi’s idea of cleanliness. Gandhi had a similar dream of creating an India free of sanitation problem. The major agenda behind Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was proper waste management and ensuring that every household in rural areas have a toilet.

It is the first such major social movement to be known from the side of government. Narendra Modi also had the thought that there could be nothing pristine that launching Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He himself got down to roads to sweep off the kachra, the waste. He wanted other people to join hands and take this initiative forward towards a cleaner India by 2019. The project was expected to cost over Rupees 2 lakhs crore.

Significance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Well it’s necessary to live in a clean environment for every citizen. It’s as fundamental as one desires to drink clean water.
